PolyWorks Inspector Airfoil Gauge Module at Advance CNC Machining

An airfoil is the shape of a wing or blade (of a propeller, rotor, or turbine) or sail as seen in cross-section.  Airfoils are incredibly important parts used in a variety of industries involving air and water movement including the marine, aerospace and refrigeration industries.

Advance CNC Machining has been using 3D CMM inspection software called PolyWorks by Innovmetrics for some time but we have recently added the PolyWorks Inspector Airfoil Gauge Module to our quality control arsenal.  [blockquote author=”” link=”” link_title=”” target=””]This software is considered “the most comprehensive airfoil inspection solution on the market for a complete dimensional analysis of fan, compressor, and turbine blades”. [/blockquote]

 

The Airfoil Gauge Module is fully customizable and can be reprogrammed to meet the specific needs of our customers.  This software allows us to:
Dramatically Reduce Inspection time.

With PolyWorks programming capabilities, we can create complete inspection sequences, including definition of very specific tolerances and final reports.

Increase the percentage of parts we can inspect in large orders.

PolyWorks gives us the ability to execute real time monitoring and control of airfoil dimensions at all stages of the manufacturing process.  This reduces bottlenecks at inspection centers, lessening downtime on the production line.  Shortening the inspection process increases the number of parts that we can inspect in large production runs, further enhancing the overall quality and reliability of the airfoils that we produce.

Inspect the quality of the entire part not just certain areas.

The non-contact 3D digitizer provides even more information on the quality of parts than possible with our CMM alone.  PolyWorks globally evaluates the quality of the manufactured part by comparing the digitized points to the underlying reference points of the CAD object.  This provides a quick overview of part quality, displays a color map to show the magnitude of any deviations and allows our quality specialists to focus on the areas outside of the programmed tolerances.
